Jumping in with both feet

So, it's about that time.

I was planning to announce my pregnancy after my 15 week appointment on 7/3, however I learned that I was off of work that day and so my plans got squelched. I then spent last week vacationing in Lake Tahoe. And this week, I am hiding a not-so-hideable 16 1/2 week belly until I make the work announcement when I'm nearly 17 weeks.

Last week Berilac and I spent a week with Berilac's family at a family reunion in Lake Tahoe. To kick off the event, we planned on announcing to everyone at the first all family meal we attended. I made and brought 18 of what I think are the most cutest cupcakes you've ever seen :-) (if you can't see them, those are little tiny pacifiers in the center of each cupcake - I made 9 pinks and 9 blues and I was planning on people selecting their cupcake by guessing what gender the baby is - cute idea huh?)

and I brought an album with a million and a half ultrasound pictures to share ... along with a cute little belly. We also brought along my 5 year old niece, but unfortunately right before the big announcement she started feeling ill and I took her to the hotel to keep her near a bathroom etc., and I missed the announcement, the album was forgotten, and the "pink" cupcakes got passed around before the blue ones - so no fun guessing game ensued.

So far I'm batting 1000 on having "bad" announcement experiences/stories.

I was planning on announcing at work during this week's staff meeting - but of course that got cancelled ... so we'll see. As soon as I announce at work, I'll start acknowledging publicly that I'm pregnant.

I wanted to take a moment and address any infertile readers I may still have left ... it is at this time that this blog will turn from an infertility/loss blog to pregnancy after infertility/loss blog. I know that many women choose to start a new baby blog, but I'm not going to. This blog started as a blog about my life and quickly morphed into an infertility/loss blog, I want to contain my life's experiences here ... so I want for people who stumble upon this blog to also see the experience of pregnancy and motherhood after such a tramatic launch. I understand that this means that many of you will no longer visit - and for that I COMPLETELY understand (I'll even bet that I've already lost a great many of you) ... I will continue to keep up to date on your lives and I will miss you incredibly ... but I get it. If I don't see you here, I will see you at your blogs.

16 weeks and 4 days ... and still pregnant. Yep, it's about time I jumped in. I hope that the following posts will start surfacing some of my pregnancy experiences - those have been long in coming.

Celebrate the approach of the holidays with us, as we are expecting Baby Gamwich on Christmas Day.

  2. I am so excited for you! I agree with the blog direction, will probably do the same thing. I get it that people don't want to read me gush over my recent u/s's too...but I want to share them with whoever wants to see them too!

Sorry about the birth announcements, lol, nothing goes smoothly. But, it shows how caring you are that you were taking care of your neice instead of stressing your announcement...you will be a great mommy (and this is probably just practice for all the other things you will miss while taking the little one to the bathroom, etc). I am really so excited for you and can't wait to follow along!!!

  3. What a perfect Christmas gift! I am so thrilled for you and DH. I'm literally smiling from ear-to-ear. =)

(I've been following your story since the beginning of the year....but for the most part have been a lurker. Sorry about that!)

I, too, live in the Bay Area (hello!), and am just beginning to plan out my IVF journey.

I know you ultimately found success through CCRM, but do you have any advice on REs in the Bay Area to visit/avoid? I'm considering doing a consult with SIRM....but if I remember correctly, you had a not so great experience with them. If you have the time (and energy), I'd love to learn from the master. =) My email: mrkhmeg@gmail.com

    Again, congratulations!

  4. Yay! I love it when there's a new Polly post in my reader! I'm glad to hear that things are progressing well for you and that you're comfortable enough to start telling people.

The cupcakes are TOO CUTE! I'm sorry that the announcement didn't go as planned, but now you have the support of all of your family behind you.

Will we ever get to see a belly pic?

  6. That is so special. Announce away...!!

I think your blogging may provide hope for those that have walked a very long path.

Fingers crossed for the arrival on Christmas Day.. I celebrate the same birthdate... and you know what... everybody always remembers your birthday... which is a very kind gesture in this busy world that we live in!

  7. YAHOOOO! Oh, honey, I'm so excited for you finally jumping in and accepting this beautiful pregnancy. When are you going to show off the bump?

Sorry you missed the big announcement. (Sounds like you were practicing being a mommy with your niece :)) I'm sure the announcement at work will create oodles of excitement.

How appropriate that Flicker is due on Christmas! Every year you will get to celebrate your incredible gift. So cool.

  8. I'm sorry the announcements havent gone as planned but so glad things are still going so well! Yay!!!

I think it is great that you are keeping your blog. I have done that also and I think that it gives people hope in struggle, and, reading back entries, can let them know that things are possible.

  10. So happy for you Polly. You really deserve this joy - it's been hard won, that's for sure.

But I'm sure everyone is just so happy for you and I hope your little one comes exactly on Christmas day - I think that would be especially meaningful for you, given your faith.

You'll be halfway there soon! WOW!

  13. You haven't lost me!!!

I have found that many long time IFers who get pregnant often stop blogging or only post once or twice through their pregnancy and I find it SO frustrating not to be able to follow my friends' journeys. I am very glad we will be hearing regularly from you!! xx

  14. I chose to keep the same blog, too. It's my blog, about my life, whatever is going on in it and, at this time, that includes pregnancy.

    I'm still here and staying!

  15. Congratulations Polly! I remember reading your thoughts and experiences as you first learned of your pregnancy and feeling your hesitation all along but then rejoicing in the fact that today, right now, you a pregnant. Enjoy this experience and I hope for smooth sailing for you. I'm going to keep reading - the story isn't over yet and I look forward to hearing about your Christmas bundle of joy :)

  17. yay for 16 weeks! I've been hanging out to find out how everything was going. Your blog is the first one I started reading when I started my IF journey. I am sooo ecstatic that you have reached this point and look forward to following your pregancy and motherhood experiences :-)

  20. First of all Polly, a long overdue congratulations to you! I have been lurking on your blog for awhile.

I am glad you are still going to blog here. I agree that people need to see a pregnancy after IF journey from start to finish and beyond. I get so "attached" to people and their stories and it is hard when they don't blog anymore.

Pregnancy after IF is so unique and I always enjoyed routing on fellow IFers (even before I got my BFP).

I can't wait to follow your amazing pregnancy. Your cupcakes are adorable! Yum!

  21. Polly,
I did the same thing - Mine went from infertility to adoption to IVF to pregnancy to Mommy blog. I believe it give hope to those who are still struggling to read success stories and the great thing about blogs - if your having a bad day and don't want to read about pregnancys or babies - don't read that day!
Good luck! I am SUPER excited for you!
